Program Overview:
The Structural Packaging Design & Management program is a one-year graduate certificate designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to design and manage the production of packaging in a variety of materials including metal, glass, plastic, paper and corrugated. Students will study critical aspects of structural packaging design and management: product protection (safety and security), durability, the ability to recycle materials, sustainability opportunities and issues, and best management practices in a manufacturing environment. Significant career opportunities exist across many sectors of industry.

Learning Outcomes:
Apply the principles of mathematics and science to analyze and solve complex technical problems related to packaging engineering technology
Evaluate the characteristics, attributes, manufacturing processes, systems and technologies associated with packaging materials through the application of engineering principles and practices.
Design protective packaging systems and processes that address hazards encountered in product distribution and meet market and customer demands.
Solve management, technology and applied engineering problems using modeling and design packaging software.
Apply packaging testing techniques to different packaging materials and systems.
Career Outlook:
Graduates of the program will find jobs such as packaging coordinator/technician, packaging development specialist, packaging innovation technician, quality assurance packaging specialist, or structural designer and/or at supervisory levels with companies that supply packaging materials to any sector of the manufacturing industry. Larger manufacturers (e.g. food processors, pharmaceutical) are also potential employers.
