Sports Journalism

Program Overview:

Centennial College's Sports Journalism program is a unique graduate certificate offering that will prepare you for a career in the ever-changing world of sports media.

During your time in this Toronto sports journalism program, you'll learn the best practices for the field in a diverse and gender-inclusive environment with peers just as dedicated to and as passionate about sports.

You'll also have the opportunity to participate in the program's annual trip to baseball spring training, where you'll be able to apply skills and build confidence. Meanwhile, an industry field placement in a sports media organization in Canada or around the world will complement your training.

Admission Requirements:

• GPA: 60% or above

• IELTS: Overall 6.5 no band below than 6.0

• PTE: Overall 63 with no band below than 60

Learning Outcomes:

1. Write accurate and analytic game stories of the events of the day, within an ethical framework, that are enjoyable to the reader or listener and that can be used within multiple platforms.

2. Create and conceptualize sports features using key moments, personalities and interviews from a game or event.

3. Evaluate and utilize knowledge of Canadian sports history, business, culture and society to help set stories, broadcast reports and a variety of online delivery tools within a contextual framework.

4. Create a professional broadcast story, constructing it within the larger context of multiple platforms.

5. Produce on-air work for broadcast by combining previously learned skills into more complex presentations using multiple media platforms.
