The Master of Professional Engineering (Civil) at The University of Newcastle is a flexible postgraduate engineering degree designed to build advanced technical and professional capabilities required for modern civil engineering practice. You’ll develop strategic problem-solving skills, apply design thinking and systems engineering principles, and gain deep knowledge in areas such as hydrology, geomechanics, structural analysis and infrastructure systems. The program supports multiple pathways depending on your prior qualifications — including accelerated entry if you already hold an engineering degree, a standard two-year pathway for professional recognition, and an extended three-year pathway if transitioning from a related STEM background.
Intakes: February/March, July/August
*Tuition estimates are for the entire program and may increase annually.
The Master of Professional Engineering (Civil) does not have formally named “majors,” but you can tailor your study through subject choices and electives, focusing on areas such as:
• Structural Engineering — design and analysis of structures and load-bearing systems
• Water Engineering & Hydrology — fluid mechanics, water systems, hydrologic modelling
• Geomechanics & Geotechnical Engineering — foundations, soil mechanics and earth structures
• Transportation & Infrastructure Engineering — planning and design of transport networks
• Construction & Project Systems — integration of engineering with construction management and business contexts
