Library and Information Technology

The Library and Information Technology program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic equips you with the skills to manage both traditional and digital library systems. You’ll learn about acquisitions, cataloguing, database searching, website design, and more, with hands-on experience through two practicums in public and community libraries.

Program Overview

• Duration: 70 weeks
• Location: Saskatoon
• Intake: August (every second year)
• Courses:  Library management, reference research, digital storage, public relations, and programming.
• Practicums: Two three-week placements in libraries.

Eligibility Requirements

• High school diploma with 60% in English Language Arts A30 and B30
• A Criminal Record Check may be required for practicum placements.

Career Prospects
Graduates can work as library assistants, archive technicians, or in supervisory roles at public libraries, universities, health regions, and private organizations. The demand for library technologists is strong, with many graduates securing jobs quickly.
