Program Overview:

This two-year graduate certificate is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to effectively initiate, plan, control and commission construction projects. Students will study the investment appraisal of development projects; planning, scheduling, budgeting and control of construction project; and soft skills related to effective leadership, communication and negotiation. Students will learn to integrate construction methods, building code, and lean construction techniques into their projects. Learning will be enhanced through the use of case studies, group work and field trips. The capstone project will enable students to apply, integrate and synthesize knowledge learned into a real-world project. The co-op or guided career management term will provide students with an opportunity to apply and practice knowledge and skills in preparation for the work environment. 

Admission Requirements:

  • GPA: 60% or above

  • IELTS: Overall 6.5 no band below than 6.0

  • PTE: Overall 63 with no band below than 60

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Develop and use strategies to promote continuous professional learning in the construction industry.

  2. Monitor and support workplace health and safety practices and procedures which are compliant with current legislation and regulations.

  3. Assess construction project operations for compliance with contractual obligations, applicable laws, standards, bylaws, codes and ethical practices in construction methodology.

  4. Analyze and monitor construction processes to ensure that sustainability practices are implemented in accordance with contract documents, industry standards and environmental legislative requirements.

  5. Establish and manage relationships among diverse project stakeholders to achieve construction project goals.

  6. Manage the production, storage, retrieval and communication of project-related digital documents according to best practices, to meet construction project deadlines and goals.

Career Outlook:

Graduates are able to lead and function within multidisciplinary teams and will be well-equipped for employment with general contractors, subcontractors, consulting firms, and government agencies involved in capital development and planning.
