Bachelor of Business – Major Options

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business at Canterbury Institute of Management (CIOM) is a three-year full-time undergraduate degree designed for international students seeking careers in business, corporate, public, and not-for-profit sectors.

The program provides a strong foundation in core business disciplines including accounting, management, marketing, economics, and business communication. Alongside these fundamentals, students specialise through a chosen major and develop practical, analytical and leadership skills relevant to modern organisations.

Students complete 24 courses across core business subjects, major units, minor units and electives. A double major option is also available.

• Information Systems Major

– Programming concepts

Career pathways: Systems Analyst, IT Business Analyst, Database Officer, ICT Support Specialist.

• Hospitality Management Major

Prepares students for leadership roles in the hospitality and tourism sector.
Focus areas include:
– Hospitality operations
– Service management
– Event management
– Tourism management
– Strategic hospitality planning

Career pathways: Hospitality Manager, Event Coordinator, Hotel Supervisor, Tourism Operations Manager.

• Management Major

Builds leadership and organisational management capabilities.
Focus areas include:
– Strategic management
– Organisational behaviour
– Human resource management
– Leadership
– Decision making

Career pathways: Business Manager, HR Officer, Operations Manager, Team Leader.

• Double Major Option

Students may combine any two majors.
• Most combinations require 24 courses
• Double major including Accounting requires 26 courses
