Master of Teaching

Program Overview

The Master of Teaching at Southern Cross University is a two-year postgraduate degree designed to prepare international students for professional teaching careers across early childhood, primary or secondary settings. The program combines advanced educational theory with extensive professional experience placements — totalling 480 hours — in real classrooms and education settings. You’ll engage with contemporary pedagogy, curriculum design, inclusive education practices and applied research projects while developing the practical skills and ethical foundations essential for effective teaching. Specialisation options allow you to focus your studies on the age group and context you wish to teach, and the course is accredited by relevant Australian teaching authorities, enabling graduates to pursue teacher registration locally and enhance employability internationally.

Specialisation Options

Students in the Master of Teaching choose one specialisation to tailor their degree toward the age group they want to teach:

• Early Childhood Education — prepares teachers for early learning settings (birth to five years).
• Primary Education — equips graduates to teach children from Kindergarten/Prep to Year 6.
• Secondary Education — prepares you to teach specific secondary school subjects (Years 7–12).
